Instead of celebrating Christmas with gifts, I travel with my family in December. We’ve been doing this for years now, one year it’ll be the Dominican Republic, next it’ll be London or Barcelona. This year, we’re in Lisbon, Portugal. We took the train from New Hampshire to Boston, jumped a plane to JFK and then on to Portugal. After landing we got an Uber to the neighborhood we’re in this time, Bairro Alto.
Every neighborhood in Lisbon has a ton to see. If you’re into colors, textures, layers, random and not so random wall scrawlings Lisbon is for you. You can, and we have, spent hours walking, shooting photos, and making drawings of the walls, tiles, sculptures, and people here.
We finished day one in our apartment, on the deck with a proper sunset and then a dinner at Arkhe Vegetarian restaurant.
Day two, up for a stop at Copenhagen Coffee...
Then breakfast at The Mill, a city walk, and a short boat ride over to one of my favorites, Ponto Final, for lunch.
After lunch we boated back and split for the Museu Berardo. They have a solid permanent collection and a rotating show updating regularly.
Next was a stop for music and beer at Boqueirao Sabor a Brasil, where we got to listen to 2.5 hours of Brazilian music along with cheap beer and coxinha at The LX Factory... —Russ Pope
Stay tuned for more art and Lisbon travels from Russ Pope in the coming days!
