It's been an amazing summer in San Francisco, with Ed Hardy: Deeper than Skin at the de Young museum being promoted all over the city and seeing tattoo art takeover the conversation of the summer exhibition season. The show itself is almost over, closing on October 6, 2019. For the past few months, Juxtapoz has been collecting stories about Ed and tattoo culture at large, getting a view that this once underground art form has been turned into an international genre. Today, we talk to internationally renonwed tattoo artist, Chris Garver, on what Ed Hardy means to him.

Garver, who now tattoos at Invisible NYC, says, "Ed Hardy has been such a huge influence on tattooing. He was one of the first people with an art school education to become a professional tattoo artist, and really pushed the boundaries of the craft. Through his publications, too, he opened people's eyes to the possibilities of what could be done."
