With all the energy of the art world in Miami, there is something about the calm, iconic works of Scott Kahn in Hong Kong with David Zwirner that feels absolutely poetic. The noise versus the sublime quiet, the ancient lunar calendar versus the Dionysian pleasure of South Beach. This isn't the only way to look at Kahn's works, but it feels quite apt that we are looking at his works now, this week. Once in a Blue Moon features a body of new paintings that "focus on different types of full moons across the lunar calendar—with its myriad connotations—as their central compositional element." But what the show really captures is Kahn's ability to make us think about looking, voyeuring while voyeuring, a thrilling feel that has never felt so serene and ancient. —Evan Pricco
