There's a manic energy to these paintings by Chilean painter, Pablo Barba. Yes, the scenes feel familiar. They are dinner scenes, the classic petit genre style of dinner paintings that show community and family, friendship and dionysian pleasure. But Pablo paints them with energy, and a bit of chaos, unhinged. They are festive, and seeing that they are based off of stock imagery that the artist pulls, they are given a heightened overhaul and departure from reality. On view now at A Hug From the Art World, these are everyday life works are everything but, more of a surreal dive into our need for connection and a bit of social debauchery. —Evan Pricco
