The exhibition, Hairy Takes, presents a new series of exuberant paintings and fluffy sculptures from the mind and hand of the Japanese master of intuitive contemporary kawaii, Misaki Kawai. Over the past two decades Kawai has continued to engage, develop and expand the figurative language of painting, sculpture and installation. Vibrant and bold, often on the verge of compositional collapse, punk and cute, works with gut, history, humour, empathy and edge.

hairy tales

we have hairy tails
out in the woods

we go hop skip jump

wonder tales
magic tales

we have fluffy tails
so puffy, so ticklish

we wash our tails in the puddle

charming tales
romantic tales

we have funny tails
sometimes up sometimes down

we can also spin our tails

sunny tales
moon tales
