Surreal Salon, the annual exhibition that celebrates the growing quality, popularity, and diversity of the pop-surrealist/lowbrow movement, returns to Baton Rouge Gallery for its eleventh year in January 2019. The exhibition, to be held January 3 - 31, 2019, in partnership with the LSU School of Art, will aim to once again feature works from artists around the world, giving audiences a unique multi-sensory experience with one-of-a-kind contemporary art typically not seen in this region.

Over the past ten years, Surreal Salon has included works running the gamut in terms of media, including paintings, photography, ceramics, textiles, mixed media works, and more. Artists from all corners of the United States and five different nations have been featured in previous exhibitions and they're now inviting a new group of artists to join them!

BRG is now accepting submissions for works to be considered by Special Guest Juror, former Juxtapoz cover artist Camille Rose Garcia, for inclusion in Surreal Salon 11. Artists interested in being a part of Surreal Salon 11 should review the Surreal Salon 11 Exhibition Prospectus before submitting work(s) for consideration via EntryThingy.

In past years, they've enlisted jurors for Surreal Salon that represent some of the most influential names in pop-surrealism, including Juxtapoz co-founder Greg Escalante and artists such as Ron English, Greg “Craola” Simkins, Liz McGrath, and Josh “Shag” Agle.

Garcia, the child of a Mexican activist filmmaker father and a muralist/painter mother, has become one of the pop-surrealist movement’s most well-known painters. Her layered, broken narratives of wasteland fairy tales act as commentaries that blend pop culture references with a satirical slant on modern society. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums internationally and in our magazine as well as Rolling Stone.

Garcia will give a free and informal talk at the LSU School of Art on Monday, January 28, 2019, in conjunction with Surreal Salon 11. Her presentation will touch on her own work, her more than three decades as a professional artist, the state of pop-surrealism today, as well as the collection of works featured in Surreal Salon 11.
