Vanitas is the most recent installation by Spanish artist Aryz. Taking the form of a large-scale diptych, this artwork offers a contemporary interpretation of the Vanitas art tradition from the 16th and 17th Centuries, in dialogue with an anonymous painting from the collection of the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga.

This large scale installation has been designed and produced specifically for the Panteão Nacional in Lisbon. Originally a church (Church of Santa Engrácia), it became the National Pantheon in 1916. The personalities entombed there include Portuguese illustrious figures, mostly presidents of the Portuguese Republic and writers.
