We start the week with an A Portfolio on Brooklyn-based painter, illustrator and digital artist, James Bowles. He will be part of the group show, The Block is Hot, curated by Alex Browngardt opening at 1969 Gallery on August 2, 2024.

James Bowles (b. 1999) is a multidisciplinary artist from Westport, Connecticut based in Brooklyn, New York. Bowles was selected to exhibit work at the Westport Art Center “Pop-Up!” Collective show in 2015 and 2016. Following this, Bowles attended the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan where he graduated with a BFA in Visual and Critical Studies. His work has been published in the Luna Collective Magazine’s “Summer 2020” issue, the School of Visual Arts’ "Visual Arts Journal,” and Curatorial Affairs. Bowles’s Illustrations have been included in AutoArts Illustrated Newspaper and in an article on Platform Art. Bowles creates works across various mediums that articulate ideas of personal obsession and anxiety, the ephemeral nature of memory, and a complicated relationship with tobacco advertising.
