This past weekend, Juxtapoz partnered up with our friends at Liquitex and Aftershock to present an interactive graffiti installation called the Make Your Mark Zone at the two-day festival in Sacramento, CA. 45,000 people came from places all around the country to enjoy the music, interactive exhibits, and entertainment over the two days.
Los Angeles-based artist Vyal from Risk Rock Studios was on-site at the graffiti installation both days, having a first crack at the blank canvas each morning and then meeting fans and encouraging them to tag the wall throughout the day. There was a consistent line of as many as 100 people at times who wanted to get in on the action. "I enjoyed the live music and the response from the people who have never been able to sit and watch this type of art being done live, let alone do it for themselves," said Vyal. "Using spray paint is challenging and it helps change peoples perceptions of Aerosol art when they see how difficult the medium can be. After painting the people showed a great amount of love and respect for me and the art, which is dope!"
In fact, the graffiti wall was so popular with the crowd that we had to shut it down early on Saturday to make sure there would be enough spray cans on hand for Sunday.
According to Clay Busch, production coordinator for the festival, "It (the Make Your Mark Zone) connected better than we expected and was a fan favorite. We actually didn’t order enough paint and we are going to grow it in 2016."
