There is something quite serene seeing these paintings in conversation with ceramics. Julia Chiang's painting, in contrast to her husband KAWS who has a show at Parrish at the same time, are works that seem to be of the sea, slow waves that roll over you with detail and lie. Julia Chiang: The Glows and The Blows is the artist's first ever solo show, and showcases her strength in letting the space give you a sense of peace with the works, letting the body relate to the oblong ceramics and the painstakingly constructed, organic paintings. “I’m always interested in our bodies as vessels, what we contain and what we cannot. All that comes out of us, all that is within us . . . Borders both real and imagined. Existing in the in-between," and that is where she takes us. —Evan Pricco
