After previewing the latest leg of his museum retrospective, "The Octopus Eats Its Own Leg," on his birthday (with the city of Vancouver declaring February 1, 2018 "Takashi Murakami Day"), we share with you some of the installation and painting views of Murakami's show at the Vancouver Art Gallery along with a few new works that have never been seen before. The exhibition is Murakami's first museum survey in Canada. The show will be on view through May 6, 2018.
We were lucky enough to share Juxtapoz x Superflat at the Vancouver Art Gallery in late 2016-early 2017, and were excited to head back for the opening of this solo presentation of Murakami's work. “I have no feeling of pride. That's why I chose this title. I am actually embarrassed by my artistic expressions,” Murakami said. The show presents an in-depth look at Murakami's works from the 1980s to the present, from his early works as an art student to his ambitious sculptural work of recent years.
Thank you to Destination BC and the Shangri-La Hotel in Vancouver for their hospitality.
