Right now is a renaissance of sorts for figurative painting. And, wow, it feels refreshing to write that. Our editiors here at Juxtapoz have long shared their affinity for figurative painting, and even more so, an long-standing tradition of researching and talking with artists about graduate and undergraduate art programs to hone their skills at. We have our In Session department each issue that often talks about these programs.

Which is why we are such huge fans of the AXA Art Prize, one of the leading student art competitions in the United States that is open to any style of figurative paintings, drawings, and original prints created by undergraduate and graduate art students. Right now, they are taking submissions for a chance to not only win a first prize of $10,000 and have your work be featured in a traveling exhibition in San Francisco, Chicago and New York with 40 finalists, but you get to have your work judged by an amazing jury of some of our favorite artists: Julia ChiangEric ParkerLaurie Simmons and Salman Toor

Last year's winner was Juxtapoz favorite Anna Park (!) and second place went to Victor Manuel Salinas. We made a gallery of the 40 finalists from the 2019 prize show, seen above.

Submit your work here!!! The last day to enter is March 18, 2020.
