Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Los-Angeles based artist Michael McGregor at Zona Maco, featuring a series of new paintings and hotel stationary drawings. This marks the artist’s premier solo booth at the esteemed art fair.
Inspired by Impressionist and Fauvist painters, McGregor’s works hold a feeling of spontaneity, building scenes that convey the sense of being “en plein air”. The artist describes his approach to still life painting as "al dente" favoring loosely rendered and wild depictions, which are in stark contrast with more traditional European still life painting. Vibrant oil paintings and “point and shoot” drawings on hotel stationary invite viewers into a world that merges fact, fiction and fantasy. McGregor’s work is informed by his travels around the globe, and creates wide-eyed renderings of traditional subject matters, with a focus on still life that reinvigorate our relationship with the aesthetics of everyday life. His energetic and gestural marks capture observations of the world with a sense of reverence, optimism and subtle critique.
Michael McGregor’s solo presentation will be on view at Zona Maco from February 5th to February 9th, 2025, at booth A109.
