Continuing their ongoing efforts to collaborate with renowned artists and exciting creatives of our time (something we've been featuring regularly and even discussed on Radio Juxtapoz, ep 80,  the Javier Calleja Vault byVans collection was just announced. Comprising footwear, clothing, as well as accessories featuring Spaniard's iconic characters, the vault will be available internationally from February 5th.

"For me, the audience is as important as the art and I feel like the painting without people, is nothing," Javier Calleja stated about this release with which he is continuing to work in different avenues in order to bring his universe outside the fine art sphere. Most known for his colorful portraits featuring child-like subjects with exaggerated eyes and expressions and increasingly popular for his sculptural work, the Malaga-based artist is continuously exploring other formats and mediums to employ his imagery. Yet besides his celebrated studio work, highly sought after editions, and range of items and objects enveloped in his aesthetics, the core of his practice are still the most basic and rudiment artistic tools. "For me, drawing on paper is the best! With drawings, you can go to the end of the world and back on the same day," Calleja revealed while announcing this collaboration and this sentiment certainly comes to life with this vault. With pencil-like drawings adorning such iconic Vans footwear models as OG Sk8-Hi or OG Classic Slip-On, and more refined renditions on OG Chukka Boot or OG Authentic, as well as a hoodie, socks, bags, etc, the artist successfully employed his visual language on these timeless pieces. In addition, many of the items in this collection feature the signature colors, which, in order to accentuate their vibrancy, are done with embroidery. Both elevating the quality of the product as well as the impact of the light-hearted visuals, the vault feels like a great pre-spring release.
