Our friends at Slowtide are proud to announce a partnership with Un Mar de Colores and artist DJ Javier. The parntership captures inclusivity, diversity, and ocean stewardship with the launch of a special collaborative towel. Un Mar de Colores is a nonprofit that empowers children of color and underserved youth through surf therapy, environmental education, and mentorship programs. Their work is about more than just riding waves—it’s about creating a space where every child feels seen, heard, and valued.
The towel design features original artwork by DJ Javier, a long-time friend and supporter of Un Mar de Colores. The piece was inspired by a mural DJ created for Just Peachy, one of the only Mexican-owned markets in coastal Leucadia. The mural holds deep community significance, as Lucy, the market owner’s daughter, was part of Un Mar’s very first group of students. Now, the art lives on in this vibrant towel, carrying with it the spirit of connection, culture, and the sea. “Working with Mario and Un Mar feels personal,” shares DJ Javier. “Their work really resonates with me, especially as a POC surfer. It’s about making sure underrepresented voices are heard and seen. I’m honored to be part of a project that helps kids like the younger version of me find belonging in the ocean and beyond.”
100% of proceeds from this collaboration towel will go directly to Un Mar de Colores, supporting their life-changing programs and enabling the next generation of surfers to thrive—both in the water and in life.
